“Illusion Quilt” or other names are Escher or Entwined.
I don't have a pattern so I am going to wing it and design this one myself I needed to make two trapezoid units (which consist of two blocks) one right-facing triangle and one left-facing triangle.
I am using a partial seam, meaning you don't sew the whole seam to join one piece to another right away - you just sew part.
Cutting Instructions to make 304 trapezoid units:
Cut 34 strips of the dark fabric, sub-cut the strip using a 60-degree triangle place the bottom on the 4-1/2 line and the top on the 2-3/4 line, and then cut 304 isosceles trapezoid pieces, each strip will produce 9 units. See the photo below.
Cut 34 strips of the light fabric, sub-cut the strip using a 60-degree triangle place the bottom on the 4-1/2 line and the top on the 2-3/4 line, and then cut 304 isosceles trapezoid pieces, each strip will produce 9 units.
Cut 34 strips of the medium fabric, sub-cut the strip using a 60-degree triangle place the bottom on the 4-1/2 line and the top on the 2-3/4 line, and cut 304 isosceles trapezoid pieces, each strip will produce 9 units.
Cut 9 x 2-inch strips of red (feature) fabric to make the 2-inch triangles for the centre of the triangles. I will need to cut 304 units. I marked all edges 1/4-inch triangles.
All seams must be pressed open, this will cut down on the bulk at the intersections and give a better point when joining units together.
Practice pieces
Backing the quilt.
I plan to cut the backing fabric in half and piece three rows of boxes joined by a ribbon through the boxes in the middle of the backing.
Below is the Label and the Black and White striped binding.
Until next time
Happy Quilting
