Caravan/Trailer Quilt - A Cute Camper Quilt

Thanks, Jenny and the team from Missouri for the original pattern. I download this free pattern from Missouri Star blog and changed it up a bit by adding two wheels instead of one, window with curtains, striped borders, I also added silhouettes of Australian animals to some of the blocks.

I made 20 blocks all up. I used leftover scraps of fabric. The plan was to have 4 caravans blocks across and 5 caravan blocks down. Below is a picture of some of a pile of blocks with the second striped border attached.

It was important to sew the middle part of the wheel hub (grey circle) and the outer wheel (black circle) together before they are ironed in place, then I arranged the other pieces of the caravan/trailer onto the background fabric and ironed in place.

Blanket stitch all the way around the outside of the caravan doors, windows, bunting etc...using white thread.

I started stitching next to the wheel and sewed around the wheels and come up around the top then all the way around the caravan/ trailer then back around the wheel in white thread. I used Jenny's trick and used a black sharpie permanent marker and coloured in those little tiny white threads that were showing around on the black wheels so they don’t show.

To make the second border for the caravan block I cut the striped fabric into 1½ ̎ x 10̎  strips and sewed them to the two sides of the block, then I sewed 1½ ̎ x 1½ ̎  black square to the top and bottom strips of 1½ ̎ x 10̎  striped fabric. I added black sashing 1½ wide to sew the rows together, and then I added my last border which was 8-inch.

Next step was to load the backing, wadding and quilt top onto my longarm and quilt the three layers together.
I love this quilt,  I usually float my quilt tops.

The above picture is Qbot stitching the first row of the quilt pattern,

Striped binding to finish the edge. Now it's ready to go into our caravan.
